Better touring screen options

i have the 901 expedition after changing the pegs to rally pegs, throwing on a set of bark busters and pannier racks from outback motortek the only thing I am really missing is a more vertical touring screen.

Sometimes when landing I hit my face on the OEM screen. I love the height for protection but it leans back toward the rider way too much.

I have had a look at the photos of the Puig offering and they look a bit better but was hoping there may be an even more pronounced vertical one.

Essentially I am chasing something that goes pretty much vertical from the headlight similar to a rally bike.

I found the OE screen on my Expedition to be too tall. The two issues I had with it were, 1) I was worried I would hit it with my face when riding trails. It got very close at times. 2) I would not call it buffeting but with the Expedition screen it was incredibly loud inside my helmet. I thought it might be that particular helmet, but it wasn't. I tried my other two helmets and still loud, era plugs were a must and anything above 50-55mph I could not hear my helmet audio. If I stood up getting my head into clean air it was so much better.

I installed a WRS "touring" height screen and while I haven't ridden it but a few miles I can tell it's much better. I have good airflow around my helmet and it's so much more quiet. I worry about blowing 150$ to test something that might not work for me, but in this case it was a good purchase.

I just got an Aprilia Tuareg dakar 2024 and it is so buffety/windy at highway speeds I am already looking for an alternative. My old R1150GSA was very quiet and smooth with (I forgot which) aftermarket screen up front. Was thinking a Norden Expedition but what I'm reading here - it's also got airflow issues? Maybe BMW are the only ones that wind test their adv bikes?

How happy are people with their Nordens at 80MPH long distance?

I have a Tuareg in CA with a Puig deflector on top of my windshield and it helped a huge amount. I still have to wear ear plugs for wind noise, but no buffeting. Just bought a new to me 22 Norden 901 with a variety of screens. Current is the expedition screen, and I agree, very noisy. I will mount the Givi touring screen today to see how that is. At 6'3" tall, I shouldn't have problems looking over the 5" or so taller screen. And the extra width should help with buffeting. We'll see!

I take it you've not read through this?

I'm 5'11 with a 32" inseam, I ride in either the low or high seat position depending on the day. Stock mirrors, stock windscreen, stock handguard, 1" BRP riser for a Scotts stabilizer, +10mm KTM riser, and ODI McGrath bars (although stock was fine too). I wear a large Shoei X-14, RF-1400 with Sena 20s, Hornet X2 with Sena 20s, or Klim F5 depending on the day. I can cruise at virtually any legal speed (60-80mph) on my Expedition without buffeting in either seat height or any of my helmets.

Review of the WRS touring from a 4700 km trip. Autobahn, Highway, twisties and light gravel.

Good: Looks better with the smoke than the Expdition screen, at least on my dark bike.

Tall enough, when going long distance at high speed I can crouch behind the screen to get better wind protection on the motorways.

Can stand without problem and get clean and cooling air. Did not do any enduro stuff though.

Had a Puig but never felt the need to mount it. It even worked well on the autobahn at 190kmh.

Bad: Wind noise. Same as the Expidition screen. My solution is to wear 3m disposable ear plugs, deep in my ear canals. Then I don’t bother about it. Went on the twisties with reusable ear plugs (lower rating) , but could not handle the noise as it bothered me too much, changed to 3m and was happy again (and can still hear music from intercom).

All in all, like it and I will keep it for my longer rides (that includes a lot of +130 kmh riding). And for extending the season when it’s colder.

For the local day rides I will use the shorter WRS Enduro, which I really like.
