Norden 901 Issue - Engine cutting out whilst riding along at 50mph! Help!

Hi all

There is only really two logical explanations for this. Firstly for the rear to lock up at 55mph in the wet, it is most likely you hit some oil or other slippery surface. The slipper clutch is mechanical and is designed to prevent rear lock up even if the engine seizes.

Why did the engine cut? Possibility one is after changing down you are expecting to change down again and you are resting your foot on or under the gear lever just enough to cut spark but not change gear. On my Norden I disengage quick shifter when off road, otherwise I find when crossing rivers the pressure of the water on the gear lever is enough to cut out the engine (That is how the quick shifter functions - cuts spark on start of lever movement before enough pressure is applied to change gear).

The other option in this case (not some of the others) is you are applying rear brake even if are not consciously aware of doing it. That will lock up your rear tyre on a slippery patch and stall the engine. I do it accidentally on my dirt bike on downhills often.

Hope that helps.
