Norden vs 890 Adventure

As most of you know I have a '21 890 and I sold my Norden. Norden is/was a great bike and a huge step forward from the '21 890. I just picked up a '23 890 Adventure (non R) and thought I'd share what I find new and different.

What's new? My feet touch the ground without having to mess with lowering the bike. The heated grips return to what they were set at when you turn the key off and on. That's basically it. Otherwise it's fundamentally the same bike.

What's different?
Aerodynamics are much improved. No buffeting! I think the 890 blocks more air than the Norden. The Norden has those slots on either side of the headlight that let a lot of air through. It's still a bit breezy but it's an Adventure bike not a tourer. I also thing the shape of the bike creates less turbulence than the shape of the Norden but that's subjective, I don't have a wind tunnel to prove it.

The dash is better. You can see the odometer going down the road! In fact there is a whole row on the bottom of the main screen that you can set to whatever you want.!

The gas cap is better. The cap on the 890 opens towards the handlebars making it much easier to put the fuel nossel in the tank. Not sure why they went back to the other way on the Norden?

Norden still has the better seat. The new 890 seat is night and day better than the old 890 seat but still smaller and not as nice as the one on the Norden.

That's about all I've got.

Put about 230 miles on the 890 today. Wind blowing 20-25 mph. Zero buffeting regardless of direction, less wind than the Norden. I saw another post with a picture of the new Puig screen for the Norden. It looks like a winner and maybe it would even the 2 bikes up.
They are so much the same otherwise. It's like a Chevy and a GMC, same pick-up different hood.
Rob's Performance made it so easy to swap bikes that it was worth doing.

I appreciate your comparison here. For me the 23' Norden (standard) with the Expedition windscreen is fine...it's a motorcycle, it's windy, and it's ADV. I looked seriously at the 890R (S) before I purchased the Norden and I thought it was slightly higher. I also tip toe the Norden even with the lower ergo seat and I wish I didn't but it's the same with my 300 XC-W and I just deal with it.

All that to say, I'm guessing the reason you are flat footed on the 890 is the narrow seat?

Is it true you can't get the Norden odometer to go to the home screen? I hate searching for it but can't seem to find a fix. ???

Thanks for your comparison reviews @Donk!

I think that one other difference is in the software... in your new 890 please confirm that when you set your bike to the Offroad mode, it automatically turns the ABS to the Offroad setting. Similarly, when you set your bike back to the Road mode, it automatically turns the ABS to back to the Road setting. Whereas in a 2022 Norden, you have to manually turn off/on the rear ABS in an additional step.

My understanding is that the 2023 Norden's also have this feature. I believe that I saw in another thread on this forum that the 2022 Norden's might also receive this feature as part of a software update. I'm currently running software version 5.20, which according to my dealer was the lates version then I visited them 2 months ago. I still have to manually turn the rear ABS on/off. It's not that big a deal, but sure would be nice to have the rear ABS coordinated with the Road, Offroad, and Explorer modes.
