Laminated jackets/pants vs drop in liner

Hello,

currently have a textile jacket/pants with drop in weatherproof liner. It’s a hassle to stop and put the liner in place when it starts raining. Also the jacket/pants gets heavy with all the rainwater, plus sometimes the liner starts to leak.

Looking at laminated GoreTex jackets/pants. Are they worth it? Or do you still need rain clothes for the hardest showers?

Is 2 layer GoreTex enough or should I go for 3 layers?

I wear Aerostich R3 and it has always kept me dry. Recently I bought the Aerostich Darien jacket, it too has kept me dry and is very comfortable.

Die Rukka Start-r ist nach 2 Jahren nicht mehr dicht. Trage bei Regen immer eine Überhose. Trotz GoreTex Folie. Schade
Based on the research I did, it depends on the type of environment you ride in. Laminated garments tend to be hotter since you can’t remove the waterproof layer and they often have less vents. So if you live in dry environment or rarely ride in the rain, then a separate liner is a better and cheaper option. You can apply DWR on your garments to make them water resistant. Sometimes that’s just enough to find shelter while the rain passes.
