Gas spraying out of tank????

Last weekend I rode for a couple of hours in the NC mountains. With about a half a tank, I stopped to get gas/unlocked the cap. When I lifted the cap, gas spewed out of the fill hole, all over the TFC, my GPS and over side of the body work. It appeared to be under a fairly high pressure issue.

Has anyone else had this issue? What is the cause? What is the fix?

your vent hose is either pinched or clogged. That’s what usually causes that problem. You can do a search. There’s a good video of an 890 spewing gas all over the rider.

Follow your vent hose to see if it’s pinched or the end is clogged.

I had the same issue during a 95 f ride Saturday. Gas sprayed all over when I slowly opened the cap. While I was doing the 600 mile oil change, I popped off the gas cap plastic cover and the side panels. Both the vent and drain tubes were kinked right by the front of the tank and triple tree. The lines run down thru the frame, so I was working blind to try and straighten them out. I really didn’t want to take the tank off yet. I’ll see if it worked this coming weekend.
