Anyone have recommendations for the best gps set up for the Norden Expedition model? I will likely set up my iPhone also, but wanted any comments on the best dedicated GPS unit that works well with the bike. I have a BMW Navigator VI on my K1600GA and 1200 GS which is a Garmin system So wondering if there is a bias for the Norden (Expedition) to work with any particular gps unit. Thank you

I have a Garmin Montana 700i that I will be using on my Expedition. It's got a super robust cradle, and I like the built in SOS/InReach option. I use the unit on and off the bike, also taking it when I hike or go in the backcountry with my family, so it serves double duty. Very robust ad waterproof unit.

EVJJCE, is there an additional monthly charge for the Montana SOS feature? I have a stand-alone Zoleo which seems to work well … the screen on the Montana is smaller than the Zumo XT which I get since the Montana needs to be more portable but I do like the larger dedicated screen on the Zumo .

I've got the Zumo XT, it's pretty nice, I don't even think of it being an accessory, but more like part of the bike now. I've never once thought I needed to take it off the bike to go with me, because I have a phone for that.

My only complaint for Garmin is that I wish the external software and maps were easier to load and work with. I like the setup that Ichyboots is using on her latest adventure, but it looks like the software has crashed already in one of the videos, so who knows, maybe she'll talk about it more in an upcoming video

Yes, there is, just like with any type of InReach/SOS device. I opt to pay for a full year at a time as I also use it camping and hiking with my family (and it's slightly cheaper), but you can also do a month to month plan as well. The cost of the plan of course varies depending on the coverage and options needed. I didn't already have a stand alone SOS unit, which is in part why I went with the Montana 700i

I have used the Garmin XT now for several years, after replacing my older Zumo 396. I love the unit, very practical easy to use and easy to see even in bright daylight, something that the 396 was really bad at. It fits very nicely onto an after market bracket and wires up in seconds with the two spade terminals conveniently zip tied waiting for you to mount it (thanks Husky). That being said, the factory Zumo spring clip mount is not the most confidence inspiring mount. It clicks solidly in place, almost impossible to pull out but, there is only a tiny lip that is hooking it in place. While pre-running the Baja 1000 at night on a Honda 450 in 2021, I actually lost my XT. Lip must have not held it with all the impacts. Just saying in case you want to find an aftermarket enclosure to keep it more solidly in place. I still use the factory mount on my Norden as I don't ride it the same way I ride my dedicated off road bikes.

Noraly is using an aviation "rugged" tablet called the Air3 (Air Cubed). It's an android customized for pilots. I do find it somewhat odd that she hasn't discussed it much.
